In an era dominated by mass production, shared platforms and increasingly standardized design, ARES Atelier occupies a very different corner of the automotive world.

Based in Modena, the spiritual heart of Italian performance engineering, ARES has revived one of the most romantic traditions in automotive history: coachbuilding.

Not simply modifying cars.

Not merely tuning them.

But reimagining them.

Through a combination of artisanal craftsmanship, advanced engineering and bespoke design, ARES has established itself as one of the most fascinating automotive ateliers of the modern era, creating everything from reborn automotive icons to entirely original creations.

A Modern Coachbuilder in the Heart of Modena

Founded with the ambition of bringing bespoke automotive creation into the twenty-first century, ARES built its reputation around a simple philosophy: every vehicle should be as unique as its owner.

Operating from Modena, a city synonymous with Ferrari, Maserati and Pagani, the company combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary manufacturing techniques, allowing clients to become co-creators of highly personalized automobiles. Rather than focusing solely on performance, ARES places equal importance on design, exclusivity and emotional appeal.

Over time, the company has expanded its portfolio to include coachbuilt grand tourers, reimagined supercars, luxury off-road vehicles and limited-production collector cars, each developed with a level of attention normally reserved for one-off commissions.

Legends Reborn: The Panther ProgettoUno

Few projects have done more to establish ARES on the global stage than the Panther ProgettoUno.

Created as the first model in the company’s “Legends Reborn” programme, the Panther reinterprets one of the most beloved supercars of the 1970s: the De Tomaso Pantera. Rather than producing a simple homage, ARES combined retro-inspired styling with the engineering foundations of the Lamborghini Huracán, creating a machine that captures the spirit of the original while delivering modern performance.

Its dramatic carbon-fibre bodywork, muscular proportions and distinctive pop-up headlights immediately distinguish it from contemporary supercars. Beneath the surface lies a naturally aspirated Lamborghini V10, all-wheel drive and modern chassis technology, resulting in a car that feels equally at home on a mountain road or at Villa d’Este. Production was limited to just 21 examples, ensuring its status as one of the most exclusive modern reinterpretations of a classic automotive icon.

The ARES S1 Project

While the Panther looked to the past, the ARES S1 Project looked firmly toward the future.

Conceived as a vehicle that combined hypercar design, supercar performance and everyday usability, the S1 became the company’s first fully original modern supercar. Its aggressive bodywork, advanced aerodynamics and exotic proportions reflected ARES’s ambition to move beyond reinterpretations and establish its own design identity.

The later S1 Project Spyder added an open-air dimension to the formula, creating one of the most visually dramatic vehicles ever to emerge from the Modena atelier. Both models demonstrated that ARES was capable of creating entirely new automotive experiences rather than relying solely on nostalgia-inspired projects.

The Bentley Mulsanne Coupé

Among ARES’s most elegant creations is the Bentley Mulsanne Coupé.

Inspired by the great coachbuilt luxury automobiles of the twentieth century, the project transformed Bentley’s flagship four-door limousine into a stunning two-door grand tourer. The conversion required extensive redesign work, including bespoke body panels, revised proportions and a complete reimagining of the vehicle’s profile.

The result feels like a modern interpretation of the great Bentley continent-crossing coupés of the past. Long, elegant and imposing, it demonstrates that luxury can be every bit as captivating as outright performance. More importantly, it showcases ARES’s ability to revive traditional coachbuilding at a level rarely seen in the modern automotive industry.

Wami Lalique Spyder: La Dolce Vita Reimagined

Perhaps no ARES creation captures romance quite like the Wami Lalique Spyder.

Developed in collaboration with renowned French crystal manufacturer Lalique, the car draws inspiration from the glamorous sports cars of the 1950s and the elegance of Italy’s Dolce Vita era. Its long bonnet, flowing fenders, chrome accents and handcrafted details evoke memories of classic Ferraris, Maseratis and grand touring roadsters from a golden age of motoring.

Inside, crystal details crafted by Lalique combine with fine leather, wood trim and bespoke craftsmanship to create an atmosphere unlike anything found in a modern production car. Limited to just 12 examples, the Wami Lalique Spyder represents one of the most unusual and luxurious projects ever undertaken by ARES.

Reinventing the Defender

Not every ARES project focuses on grand touring or supercar performance.

The company’s interpretation of the classic Land Rover Defender demonstrates its ability to reimagine an entirely different type of vehicle. Combining rugged off-road capability with handcrafted luxury, the ARES Defender receives extensive body modifications, bespoke interiors, upgraded suspension systems and powerful V8 engines.

The result is neither a conventional restoration nor a traditional luxury SUV. Instead, it represents a unique blend of utility, exclusivity and craftsmanship that appeals to collectors seeking something far more distinctive than a standard Defender.

More Than a Manufacturer

What makes ARES particularly interesting is that it does not fit neatly into any traditional automotive category.

It is not a supercar manufacturer in the conventional sense.

It is not a tuning company.

Nor is it simply a design studio.

Instead, ARES occupies a space somewhere between coachbuilder, luxury atelier and bespoke automotive creator. Each project begins with a story, whether that story originates from a legendary De Tomaso, a forgotten Bentley concept or the glamour of 1950s Riviera motoring.

The Future of Bespoke Automotive Luxury

As the automotive industry becomes increasingly standardized, the value of individuality continues to grow.

ARES has built its entire business around that principle.

From the Panther ProgettoUno and S1 Project to the Wami Lalique Spyder and Bentley Mulsanne Coupé, every creation reflects a belief that luxury should be personal, emotional and deeply individual. Rather than chasing production volume, ARES focuses on creating automotive works of art for a select group of collectors and enthusiasts.

In many ways, ARES represents the modern evolution of Italian coachbuilding.

A company where craftsmanship still matters.

Where imagination still drives design.

And where some of the most extraordinary automobiles in the world begin with a blank sheet of paper.
